Skincare is important no matter where you are. Take your skincare on the road with you. |
It took a solid 40 years for me to take my skincare routine seriously, and some may think I'm a little late to the game. But, I don't think it is ever too late to start taking better care of your skin. While I wear make up daily for work, I rarely wear it at the campground. I do think how you take care of your skin everyday matters - even when camping. So, what is my skincare routine at the campground?
Skin Care at the Campground?
If my skin is healthy, I feel less self-conscious about those days without makeup. With a few simple products, you can have glowing skin that makes you feel radiant at home, work, or the campground! I have discovered that skipping those basic maintenance steps can create problem skin even at my age. I use seven basic products that keep my skin looking its best year-round.
- Daily face wash
- Toner
- Daily moisturizer with sunscreen
- Eye cream
- Lip Balm
- Night Serum
- Body Lotion
Start with a good clean face and a toner before doing anything else. |
Start with Clean Skin
Begin and end every day with clean skin. I have discovered that a basic Cetaphil foaming face wash is one of my favorites. Cetaphil also makes a daily face wash that is similar to the foaming formula that I like. These both last a long time and won't strip your skin.
Prep Your Skin
Using a toner after you wash your face, is a good second step before you moisturize. I like spray toners because they are easy and quick. Thayers spray formula with witch hazel is gentle on the skin and is effective.
An esthetician recommended using vitamin C in my skin care routine last year. I do think it has made a difference over time. |
Moisturize
I've tried lots of different moisturizers over the years. Recently, I've been using a daily moisturizer that is specifically developed for active lifestyles. It doesn't clog my pores and contains sunscreen. Athia has an entire line of products for healthy skin, and I've really enjoyed this brand. Make sure your daily moisturizer has sunscreen. This will protect your skin over time. You can use my code Glamper at check out for 15% off.
One bonus product from Athia that you might want to check out while you are at it is their post work out spray. I use this after I leave the gym. It is great to use after riding bikes, hiking, or any activity where you have been sweating and can't wash your skin right away.
Don't skip eye cream and lip balm. It really is the little things, and it doesn't have to cost a bundle! |
Don't forget about your eyes. I use eye cream both in the morning and at night. Hydroboost from Neutrogena is one eye creme that I like.
Finally, add some hydration to your lips. I have a couple of go-to lip moisturizers. My all-time favorite is Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lip Balm. A close second is Blistex Deep Renewal.
The most expensive thing I put on my face is this Estee Lauder serum, but it really does deliver the results that make skin glow! |
Night Serum
At the end of the day, I repeat with a good wash, eye cream, lip balm, and night serum. It's the routine I follow at home as I wind down my day. Consistent routines with skin make for consistently good skin.
I never took night serum seriously until this past year. I tried Estee Lauder's Advanced Night Repair serum. It has been life-changing. I received this as a sample from Influenster. This is an excellent way to try new products that align with your interests. I was skeptical at first, but I was amazed at the results.
It is probably the most expensive thing I put on my face, but it has made a huge difference in the color and overall skin tone. And, I think it is well worth the money. Plus, it lasts a long time. I liked the sample so much that I purchased a full-sized bottle.
If you don't use a night serum, I at least recommend putting on a moisturizer at night. Neutrogena's Hydroboost line has a pressed night serum that would be worth trying is you are looking for something that isn't as expensive as the Estee Lauder night serum.
Body
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream Lotion is non-greasy and has a light scent. A co-worker told me about this lotion a few months ago. It is a lifesaver. Gas heat in the wintertime dries out my skin terribly. This lotion is amazing and won't irritate your skin.
One bonus product that you might want to check out is a daily body wash that soothes your dry winter skin. Aveeno makes a gentle body wash that is amazing. Your skin will be soft and clean, and it won't irritate sensitive skin!
I know that all of this may sound like a lot of work, effort, and products. If you are a minimalist, it may sound overwhelming. I consider these products to be basic and minimal. And, having a good skincare routine will give you maximum results over time. Trust me. I have learned this the hard way. I keep most of these things in our RV on hand so I don't have to pack them each time we travel. Anything that isn't already there is just grabbed and placed into a small toiletry bag when I pack.
Taking care of your skin will make you feel and look your best. You don't have to be dressing up, going to work, or an event to give your skin the royal treatment. It does matter even at the campground. You will protect your skin from the sun and elements. And, you will reduce breakouts, dry skin irritation, and more.
Until next time...
